Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has outlined the circumstances under which he would cease his legal battle against President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku, who finished second in the election, had challenged the president’s victory in court, but his petition was dismissed by the Presidential Tribunal. Among the allegations dismissed by the presidential election court was one of forgery.

However, Atiku continued his case in a US court, which eventually ordered the release of official documents that Atiku intends to include in his appeal to the Supreme Court.

He argued that there were inconsistencies in the certificates Tinubu submitted to INEC, which, in his view, should have rendered the president ineligible to contest the election.

During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku emphasized that he would not abandon his legal challenge until the Supreme Court issues a ruling. He stated, “I have already filed my appeal against him at the Supreme Court. I will only drop this legal battle when the court makes a ruling because there is no higher court than the Supreme Court.”

When asked if he faced pressure from Tinubu to withdraw the case, Atiku disclosed that a delegation of governors was sent by the president to engage with him after the election. However, he asserted that he did not allow them to come to his house.

Atiku also expressed no fear about potential actions against his business interests, citing the revocation of the license of Intels, a logistics firm he co-owned, during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
