On the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has expressed his ministry’s unwavering commitment to the restoration of the country’s agricultural eminence, reminiscent of its heydays in the 1960s and 70s.
Senator Kyari extends his warm greetings to all Nigerians on this momentous occasion and offers assurances that the nation will soon surmount its food security challenges. He recognizes the invaluable contributions of smallholder farmers, who play a pivotal role in the production of our sustenance. To bolster these farmers, the government is actively implementing policies and programs geared towards enhancing their productivity.
“We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the priceless contributions of small rural women to our national food production,” Senator Abubakar Kyari emphasized. He underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to creating an enabling environment conducive to the increased production and improved socio-economic well-being of these women.
In a heartfelt appeal, Senator Abubakar Kyari urges organized labor, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to reconsider their planned indefinite nationwide strike scheduled for Tuesday. He underscores the potential adverse consequences of such a strike on the current situation and calls for a collaborative approach to address workers’ welfare concerns.
Furthermore, Senator Kyari implores farmers and all stakeholders in the food production value chain to continue their activities without interruption. He emphasizes that a halt in production would disproportionately affect those with limited incomes.
Senator Abubakar Kyari’s vision to rejuvenate Nigeria’s agricultural sector to its former glory requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders. As the nation celebrates its independence, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security remains steadfast in his commitment to realizing this vision and ensuring a prosperous future for Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
