The Ogun State Government has officially launched the construction of a housing project comprising 200 units, commencing with the site clearance in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government.
This housing estate, which will be developed using direct labor, is primarily designed to offer 2-bedroom expandable bungalows, with a specific focus on catering to the housing needs of the low- and medium-income segments of the population.
According to Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, this initiative by the state government serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it aims to augment the existing housing stock within the state.
Secondly, it seeks to provide housing solutions for the emerging Remo Zone Economic Hub, anticipating an influx of workers into the region. Lastly, it complements the state government’s substantial investments in the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport.
Prospective buyers will have two options for these housing units: a carcass option priced at N8.5 million and fully finished units at N15 million. To facilitate affordability, mortgage options will be available through Gateway Mortgage Bank.
The housing estate will be outfitted with essential amenities, including robust drainage systems, well-maintained road networks, security measures, adequate lighting, water supply, recreational spaces, healthcare, educational facilities, and even a Fire Service Station to cater to the needs of the burgeoning economic cluster.
In addition to addressing housing needs, this project is anticipated to invigorate the local economy. It is expected to provide employment opportunities for approximately 5,000 artisans and engage over 50 service providers (suppliers) on-site. This holistic approach is poised to generate means of livelihood for more than 20,000 citizens, taking into account the ripple effect of employing 5,000 artisans.
