The Nigerian Government has announced its intention to launch an investigation into the recent aborted take-off of a Bombardier Global Express 605 jet operated by Pacific Energy Company Limited at Lagos Airport on September 4th, 2023.
This revelation came from Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who disclosed that the aircraft was carrying Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and his team on a scheduled flight to Abuja.
In a press release issued by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, stated that he had personally contacted the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and received a detailed briefing on the matter.
Keyamo highlighted that a mandatory report had been submitted on September 6th, 2023, in strict adherence to Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.
Keyamo further explained that the operator submitted this report through the new web-based National Aviation Safety Reporting System, SMS Pro, which was developed by NCAA in collaboration with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to align with ICAO-mandated State Safety Program and the Civil Aviation Act 2022. Consequently, a comprehensive investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Expressing relief that the incident concluded without any harm, the Honourable Minister assured the public that any recommendations resulting from the NCAA’s investigation would be diligently implemented in accordance with Nig. CARS and global best practices.
The statement also underscored the commitment of the NCAA and NSIB to intensify their efforts to uphold and improve upon the exemplary aviation safety standards established in the country over the past decade.
Minister Keyamo reiterated his unwavering stance that the safety of the aviation industry remains the paramount objective of his administration.
