In Kastina State, Comptroller Muhammed Umar Abubakar has been appointed by the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as the new Area Controller for the Katsina Customs Command.
Customs Public Relations Officer, SC Tahir Balarabe, made this announcement in a statement on Friday, revealing that Umar officially assumed his new role on September 13, 2023, succeeding Comptroller MN Musa.
Hailing from Bauchi State, Umar brings a wealth of experience to his latest appointment. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and commenced his career with the Customs Service as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs in 1989.
Over the years, he has completed numerous domestic and international training programs, culminating in his recognition as a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria.
Umar’s Customs career has been characterized by diverse postings to various formations, units, and departments, underscoring his versatility and expertise. Before becoming Customs Area Controller, he served as Acting Comptroller Special Duties at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.
He has also held substantive positions as controller in Plateau/Nasarawa/Benue and Kano/Jigawa. Most recently, he occupied the role of Comptroller Admin at the Zonal Headquarters, Zone B Kaduna.
In his inaugural address, Umar expressed gratitude to the Acting Comptroller General and the management team for the opportunity to serve as the controller of the Katsina Area Command.
He pledged to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and work ethics in his new capacity. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism among the officers and staff of the Command as they carry out their duties.
