Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has approved a bill that establishes 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The state House of Assembly had passed the bill, giving it the required legal support. The bill was presented for the governor’s assent by the House Speaker, Oladiji Olamide.
Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, affirmed that creating the LCDAs is a significant move towards fulfilling the people’s desire for improved grassroots development. It’s seen as a way to bring governance closer to the citizens and enhance public service delivery.
However, the creation of the LCDAs has stirred controversy in the state, with allegations of marginalization and land disputes among certain communities.
