Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has granted authorization for the demolition of DATKEM Plaza, a property owned by Olufunke Daniel, the wife of former governor and current senator, Gbenga Daniel.

The demolition took place at an unusual hour, specifically 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, targeting the five-story building located on Folagbade Street in Ijebu-Ode.

Olusegun Lawal, the Project Manager and Developer of the building confirmed the demolition and revealed that the construction of DATKEM Plaza had been in progress since 2009, with full approval from the state government. He emphasized that there were no structural or quality concerns with the building, and it was on track for commissioning by the end of September before this abrupt action.

In addition, Mr. Lawal disclosed that the third floor of the now-demolished building was intended to house the Ogun East Senatorial Office. He expressed frustration over the situation, citing that they had initially paid a fee to remove a partial seal, only to receive a letter within 24 hours, suggesting that their submitted amendments did not align with the building’s intended purpose.

The sudden and mysterious demolition of DATKEM Plaza has raised speculation regarding a potential political rift between Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor Gbenga Daniel.

Although neither party has officially acknowledged any ongoing feud, concerns have emerged about the motivations behind this unexpected demolition. Efforts to seek comments from their respective spokespersons regarding the matter remained unanswered as of Sunday morning.
