In a dominating Euro 2024 qualifying match against Georgia, Lamine Yamal, the teenage sensation from Barcelona, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest player ever to represent the Spanish national team.
What’s more, he made his mark as the youngest goal scorer for Spain as well.
Yamal, who is just 16 years and 57 days old, entered the game as a substitute for Dani Olmo just before half-time. However, it was in the 74th minute that he etched his name in the record books, firing in a crucial goal for Spain, which happened to be their seventh of the match.
The game itself was a goal fest, with Alvaro Morata contributing a hat-trick, and an own goal from Solomon Kvirkvelia, along with goals from Olmo and Nico Williams, sealing a resounding victory for Spain.
Yamal’s achievement of being the youngest player to don the Spanish national team jersey surpasses the previous record held by Gavi, who made his Spain debut at the age of 17 years and 62 days in 2021.
This incredible year for the young winger has been marked by several milestones. He made history by becoming the youngest player to feature in La Liga for Barcelona when he made his debut in April.
Notably, he has been consistently impressive, earning the Man of the Match title in Barcelona’s recent 4-3 victory against Villarreal, where he played a pivotal role by providing two crucial assists.
