Atiku Abubakar, has urged African leaders to delve into the underlying factors contributing to the recent upswing in military coups observed across the continent.
Atiku conveyed this message in response to the Gabon coup via his official X profile on Thursday. Expressing his apprehensions about the growing trend of military takeovers in Africa, he underscored that the Gabon coup stands as the eighth such incident to have transpired on the continent since the year 2020.
The Tweet reads: “The coup in Gabon stands condemned. Democracy and democratic governance have come to stay as a preferred form of government.
“The latest coup brings the number of military takeovers in Central and West Africa to 8 since 2020. This is worrisome. We may have to focus on dealing with the disease and not the symptoms that birth coups,”
