Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, has officially renamed the primary auditorium of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in honor of Maryam Abacha. The hall, previously identified as the African Peace Mission Hall, was revealed and given the new name by the First Lady during an event on Saturday. This renaming was carried out to acknowledge Maryam Abacha’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace throughout the African continent.
During her address, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that this occasion marked a significant achievement in the collaborative endeavors aimed at reinforcing bonds that contribute to the advancement and solidarity of women. She praised Mrs. Abacha as an individual of remarkable qualities and unwavering devotion to the progress of Africa.
Furthermore, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted Mrs. Abacha’s influential advocacy, which played a pivotal role in establishing the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, with a woman being appointed as a cabinet minister. This achievement was subsequently replicated in various states, thereby enhancing the visibility of Nigerian women.
