The West African Examination Council (WAEC) appeared before the Ogun State election petition tribunal on Thursday, summoned to produce a duplicate of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s WAEC certificate.
In the tribunal sitting held in Isabo, Abeokuta, an official of WAEC, Olufemi Olaleye, presented himself as requested. However, he was not sworn in nor allowed to enter the witness box.
Olaleye explained that he could not produce the requested certificate, as the council does not keep duplicates of collected WAEC certificates. Instead, he clarified that verification of a candidate’s examination participation is done through the original certificate provided by the candidate, which is forwarded to WAEC.
Although Olaleye was permitted to tender a copy of the subpoena issued to the commission as evidence, he was swiftly discharged after testifying before the tribunal as PW73.
When questioned outside the courtroom regarding the absence of the requested certificate, Olaleye responded succinctly, saying, “My lips are sealed.”
