The House of Representatives has officially approved the appointment of the recently selected service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu.
This confirmation came after the House adhoc committee, responsible for screening the nominees, adopted their report.
The confirmed service chiefs include Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, and AVM Hassan Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff.
The screening process began in the House on Monday, shortly after the appointment of the military chiefs was confirmed by the Senate. The screening committee, led by Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader of the House, conducted the proceedings.
During the screening, Babajimi Benson, the Chairman of the House’s Adhoc Committee, emphasized the importance of the Armed Forces adhering to the provisions of the Appropriation Act.
He also urged them to collaborate and share intelligence effectively. Furthermore, he mentioned that the National Assembly would review the performance of the confirmed service chiefs.
President Bola Tinubu appointed the new service chiefs on June 19, 2023, precisely three weeks after assuming office.
