President Bola Tinubu announced on Tuesday that his administration would reassess its earlier plan to provide monthly cash grants of N8,000 to 12 million households for a duration of six months, aiming to mitigate the hardships arising from the removal of fuel subsidies.
The decision to reevaluate the cash grant initiative came after facing public criticism, especially from organized labor, who argued that the proposed intervention fell short of effectively alleviating the suffering of vulnerable Nigerians.
In response to the public’s concerns, a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, was released late on Tuesday.
The statement conveyed that the President had directed an immediate review of the N8,000 conditional cash transfer program, taking into account the sentiments expressed by Nigeri
Furthermore, Tinubu directed that the entire range of government palliative measures be made known to the Nigerian people.
He also ordered the swift distribution of fertilizers and grains to approximately 50 million farmers and households in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).ans.
