Yesterday, Justice Iyabo Yerima, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, administered the oath of office to 15 new magistrates as part of efforts to enhance the performance of the state judiciary. The Chief Judge expressed concern over the inadequate number of magistrates in the Oyo State Magistracy, which has persisted over time. She conveyed this information during the swearing-in ceremony held at the State High Court premises in Ibadan, located at Ring Road. Currently, there are only 19 magistrates presiding in various Magistrates’ Courts across all the magisterial districts in the state. Justice Yerima revealed instances where a magistrate had to preside over multiple magisterial districts. However, she expressed optimism that the situation would soon improve.
