Lagos State Government Implements 24-Hour Closure of Eko Bridge for Bridge Adjustments

After just 1 week of Opening the Eko Bridge, The Lagos State Government has announced that the Bridge will be closed once more for a period of 24 hours starting on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

This temporary closure is necessary for urgent remedial palliative works, which will be carried out by the Lagos State Public Works in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. The announcement was made by Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, who emphasized that the closure will allow uninterrupted palliative adjustments to be made to the bridge.

To manage the traffic effectively during this period, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel have been deployed to regulate and control the flow of vehicles in key areas such as C.M.S, Marina, Ijora, and other alternative routes on both the Lagos Island and Mainland.

The purpose of these palliative works is to complement the recently reopened Apongbon Bridge and ensure its proper functionality. To minimize inconvenience for motorists, alternative routes have been provided. Motorists traveling from the Mainland/Surulere to Lagos Island are advised to use the Ijora-Olopa/Causeway route, which connects to Carter Bridge (Idumota), enabling them to reach their desired destinations. Alternatively, they can take the Costain to Iganmu route through Ijora-Oloye and Ijora Causeway, ultimately reaching Carter Bridge (Idumota).

For motorists heading from Lagos Island to Surulere/Mainland, it is recommended to follow the route from Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Iddo/Oyingbo to Herbert Macaulay and proceed to their desired destinations. Another option is to take the route from Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Ijora Olopa, passing by the LAWMA Headquarters and continuing towards Eko Bridge in the direction of Costain/Alaka.

Additionally, motorists can also utilize the Third Mainland Bridge, entering from Adekunle and connecting to Herbert Macaulay, enabling them to reach their desired destinations.

The Permanent Secretary urged all road users to cooperate with the Traffic Managers during the palliative works, in order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted movement of traffic throughout the duration of the closure.
