In a letter addressed to the House of Representatives, President Bola Tinubu has requested an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.
The purpose of the amendment, according to Tinubu, is to enable the Federal Government to obtain N500 billion to implement palliative measures aimed at mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
During the Wednesday plenary, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the letter from the president, which was titled “Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act.” Tinubu specified that the funds would be sourced from the N819.5 billion allocated in the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act.
The president explained that the amendment was necessary to comply with the law and to secure the required funds for providing essential palliatives in response to the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
