Arsenal delayed Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations with a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, despite a stunning late equalizer from Jean-Philippe Mateta at the Emirates.
Liverpool would have secured the title without playing had Palace won, but now just need to avoid defeat to Spurs on Super Sunday to claim their 20th top-flight crown.
Arsenal struck early through Jakub Kiwior’s header from a Martin Odegaard free-kick, their 16th set-piece goal of the season. Palace responded with Eberechi Eze’s volley after a clever corner routine from Adam Wharton.
Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal the lead again before half-time with a deflected strike, and though Palace made changes with the FA Cup semi-final in mind, they still created chances.
Arsenal had a third goal ruled out by VAR and saw Bukayo Saka denied late, but it was Mateta’s brilliant lob after a William Saliba error that gave Liverpool renewed hope.
