Top-four contenders Lazio snapped Genoa’s six-match unbeaten home run in 2025 with a well-earned 2-0 victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris—just their second win in six Serie A outings.
Genoa started with intensity, but their momentum was cut short when Sebastian Otoa was sent off early for a reckless foul on Mattia Zaccagni. A brief delay due to flare smoke gave officials time to review, and VAR upheld the red card.
Lazio broke through on 32 minutes with a moment of brilliance—Zaccagni and Luca Pellegrini combined to set up Taty Castellanos, who finished with a stunning scissor-kick volley.
Despite the man advantage, Lazio couldn’t immediately kill the game, with Nicolò Rovella missing a golden chance. Genoa nearly equalized through Johan Vásquez, but Christos Mandas denied him with a fine save.
The visitors finally doubled their lead when Pellegrini again won possession and started a move finished by Boulaye Dia, who slotted home coolly after a perfectly timed run.
The match turned chaotic late on as Dia’s substitute, Reda Belahyane, was sent off just a minute after coming on for kicking Morten Thorsby—a yellow card upgraded to red by VAR.
Still, Lazio saw it out, moving within one point of fourth-placed Bologna and keeping their Champions League hopes alive, while Genoa’s dream of a top-half finish remains out of reach.
