Brentford and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in the Premier League on Sunday. The Bees dominated the first half with several chances but couldn’t find a winner at Gtech Community Stadium.
Thomas Frank made two changes from Wednesday’s game at Newcastle, bringing in Kristoffer Ajer and Mikkel Damsgaard for Ethan Pinnock and Vitaly Janelt. Sepp van den Berg returned to center-back, with Rico Henry on the bench.
Chelsea had an early chance through Reece James’ free-kick, which was narrowly missed by two players. Brentford responded with Bryan Mbeumo setting up Yoane Wissa, but the shot missed the target. The Bees continued to press, with Mbeumo narrowly missing and Damsgaard failing to convert a great chance after a pass from Sepp van den Berg.
Brentford’s pressure continued, but Chelsea’s Robert Sánchez made key saves, including from a header by Kevin Schade and a shot from Mbeumo. In the second half, Chelsea came close with a few chances, including a save by Brentford keeper Mark Flekken from Trevoh Chalobah’s header.
Late in the game, Brentford almost broke the deadlock with Mbeumo’s shot saved by Sánchez and a header from van den Berg that went over the bar. Chelsea nearly snatched a win at the death, but Cole Palmer’s effort hit the roof of the net.
