Brentford Extend Winning Streak with 2-1 Victory at Bournemouth, Dashing Cherries’ Champions League Hopes

Brentford extended their impressive away form to five consecutive wins with a 2-1 triumph at Bournemouth, a result that dealt a blow to the home side’s aspirations of securing a Champions League spot.

The opening goal came in unusual fashion, as a dangerous run and cross from Milos Kerkez led to Vitaly Janelt inadvertently putting the ball into his own net, giving Bournemouth the lead. However, Brentford responded quickly when Yoane Wissa scored with a well-placed header—his 14th league goal of the season—taking advantage of some hesitation from home goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who found himself caught out of position.

Bournemouth continued to apply pressure, with Antoine Semenyo narrowly missing a close-range header that crashed off the crossbar, but their finishing let them down. Despite controlling much of the play, they couldn’t capitalize on their chances.

In a dramatic twist, Brentford seized the initiative against the run of play. Christian Norgaard smashed home a powerful shot after a long throw caused chaos in the Bournemouth penalty area, securing all three points for the visitors. This victory marked Brentford’s fifth consecutive away league win, a feat they haven’t achieved in 15 years.

For Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side, this loss adds to a troubling run of four defeats in their last six Premier League matches, stalling their momentum just as their season seemed to be building. They now sit four points behind Manchester City in fifth place.

Meanwhile, Brentford continues their strong record against Bournemouth, remaining unbeaten in all six of their Premier League encounters. In fact, the Cherries have yet to defeat the Bees in the top flight.
