Trent Alexander-Arnold Set to Miss Carabao Cup Final Due to Ankle Injury, but Expected Back Before Season’s End

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to miss an extended period due to an ankle injury, which will keep him out of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. The injury occurred during the second half of Liverpool’s recent Champions League loss to PSG on Tuesday. Although Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander-Arnold will return before the end of the season, his absence leaves the team without a recognized right-back for the immediate future.

Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are also still recovering from their own injuries, further complicating the situation. However, there is hope that Ibrahima Konate, who was also forced off the field five days ago due to a knock, can recover in time and rejoin the team for training.

“Trent is not available, and he will not be part of the final,” Slot said. “He is still being assessed, and while we don’t have an exact timeline, we do expect him to be back before the season ends.”

On Konate’s situation, Slot explained, “We didn’t train yesterday, as it was a day off, and the day before that was dedicated to recovery. I expect him to train with us today, but we’ll have to wait and see how he’s feeling.”

Slot also commented on the challenges of maintaining a fully fit squad at this point in the season, saying, “At this stage, it’s almost impossible to have all your players fit. Both teams have two, three, or even four players unavailable, but honestly, that’s a privilege. Many other teams are dealing with even more injuries.”
