Liverpool Eliminated from Champions League as PSG Triumphs on Penalties

Liverpool have been eliminated from the Champions League after Paris Saint-Germain staged a dramatic comeback, overturning a first-leg defeat and holding their composure to secure a penalty shootout victory at Anfield.

The Reds experienced their first major setback under manager Arne Slot, with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both having their penalty attempts saved by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Meanwhile, PSG converted all of their spot kicks to advance.

Luis Enrique’s side won 1-0 on the night, as Ousmane Dembele’s equalizer negated Harvey Elliott’s late goal from the first leg at the Parc des Princes. Dembele’s strike came just 11 minutes into the game, giving PSG the momentum they needed to dominate the first half, despite a promising start from Liverpool.

Though the Reds were the stronger team after the break, they struggled to capitalize on their superiority. PSG managed to withstand extended periods of pressure from Liverpool, holding out until extra time.

Adding to Liverpool’s woes, they are now facing a defensive injury crisis ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate forced to leave the pitch due to injury during the match.
