Ange Postecoglou Defends Guglielmo Vicario Following Heated Clash with Spurs Fans

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has come to the defense of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after the Italian was involved in a heated confrontation with Spurs fans following Thursday’s Europa League defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

After the 18th loss of the season, Vicario approached the away supporters in an attempt to boost their morale. However, his gesture was met with anger from the frustrated fanbase, who were visibly upset by the team’s performance. The 28-year-old goalkeeper also faced a wave of criticism on social media in the aftermath of Tottenham’s 2-0 loss in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16.

Vicario explained that his intention was simply “to stay together” and try to uplift the spirits of both the fans and his teammates. Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home match against Bournemouth, Postecoglou offered his full support to Vicario, emphasizing the goalkeeper’s commitment to the club.

The Australian coach stated, “Vic is very, very passionate about this football club. He cares deeply about what we’re trying to achieve here. He wants to win and is determined to have everyone on the same page.”

He added, “If anyone thinks there’s a single bad or vindictive bone in Vicario’s body, they don’t know the man I know. He’s one of the purest human beings you could meet. Everything he does is for the best of the team and the club, because he genuinely cares.”
