Wolves moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a crucial 1-0 win at 10-man Bournemouth, with Matheus Cunha netting the decisive goal just five minutes after Illia Zabarnyi’s red card.
Bournemouth’s defense was dealt a major blow in the 31st minute when Zabarnyi was sent off for a dangerous studs-up challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri’s shin. Referee Michael Salisbury initially issued a yellow card, but after a VAR review at the pitchside monitor, the decision was upgraded to a red card.
With the numerical advantage, Wolves quickly capitalized, and Cunha made no mistake in front of goal, scoring his 13th league goal of the season. The strike also marked his fourth consecutive game finding the back of the net in all competitions.
Despite their strong position, Wolves couldn’t extend their lead in the second half, with winter signing Marshall Munetsi squandering a golden opportunity on his first start for the club.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, failed to register a single shot on target after the break. The result handed a blow to Andoni Iraola’s side, who missed a valuable chance to move into the Premier League’s top four, denting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
