Leverkusen Misses Chance to Close Gap as Bayern Hold Firm to a Goalless Draw

Bayer Leverkusen missed a prime chance to close the gap in the title race, drawing 0-0 with Bayern Munich. Both teams faced significant pressure heading into the Topspiel—Leverkusen couldn’t let Bayern stretch their lead to eight points, while Bayern needed to prove their quality in high-stakes matches.

Tension was evident throughout, but for much of the game, Bayern looked out of ideas against a similarly matched side. Leverkusen controlled the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead. Jeremie Frimpong hit the bar in the 21st minute after a Wirtz assist, and Nathan Tella followed suit with a header off the bar four minutes later.

With Wirtz pulling the strings, Bayern struggled, and the hosts continued to press in the second half. Tella came close again in the 59th minute, but his acrobatic shot went wide.

Bayern, unable to get into Leverkusen’s half, made four changes in the 68th minute, but the pressure stayed on. As the match neared its end, Leverkusen almost stole the win, with Wirtz sending a close-range shot wide.

Despite dominating, Leverkusen couldn’t find a breakthrough, and Bayern earned a point, leaving the gap at the top intact. With no shots on target, Bayern’s struggles in big games are once again under scrutiny. Leverkusen will feel they let a golden opportunity slip.
