Tottenham narrowly avoided an FA Cup shock, needing extra time to secure a hard-fought 3-0 victory over non-league Tamworth in the third round.
The scoreline flattered Spurs, who struggled to break down their resilient opponents during the opening 90 minutes. Tamworth, dreaming of a monumental upset, nearly delivered in stoppage time as Tom McGlinchey and Jordan Cullinane-Liburd came agonizingly close to finding a winner for the Lambs.
However, their heroic effort unraveled in extra time. The breakthrough came in the 101st minute when Nathan Tshikuna accidentally turned Brennan Johnson’s cross into his own net while trying to clear. Spurs then seized control, with substitute Dejan Kulusevski doubling the lead six minutes later, latching onto Heung-Min Son’s pass and firing past Tamworth goalkeeper Jas Singh, who played just hours after welcoming his newborn son.
Exhausted, Tamworth conceded a third in the 118th minute as Johnson smashed home to cap a flattering result for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who narrowly avoided what could have been a historic upset.
