Nottingham Forest extended their impressive winning streak to seven matches with a 2-0 victory over managerless Luton in the FA Cup, marking their first such run in 19 years. The comfortable win, thanks to goals from Ryan Yates and Ramon Sosa, matched the club’s record from 2006 and further boosted their confidence ahead of a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool.
Luton, still reeling from the departure of manager Rob Edwards, struggled to threaten Forest throughout the match. Despite making 11 changes to the starting lineup with Tuesday’s league game in mind, Forest quickly found their rhythm and pushed for an early goal. Taiwo Awoniyi missed a golden opportunity in the 17th minute, dragging his shot wide from close range, but Forest continued to probe the Luton defense.
The visitors had a few moments of danger, with Forest goalkeeper Carlos Miguel making key saves, including denying Isaiah Jones a wonder goal. Forest’s dominance finally paid off in the 40th minute when Yates scored with a well-placed header from Ramon Sosa’s cross. Early in the second half, Awoniyi had another chance but failed to capitalize, striking a weak effort at Luton’s goalkeeper.
Forest sealed the victory in the 67th minute when Jota Silva set up Sosa to finish from close range. Despite a few more attempts from Luton, Forest comfortably saw out the match, maintaining their momentum and setting their sights on the upcoming challenge against Liverpool in the Premier League.
