Everton have parted ways with manager Sean Dyche after a dismal run of form that saw the team win just one of their last 11 matches, leaving them teetering a point above the Premier League relegation zone. The decision comes as the Toffees struggle to find consistency, sitting 16th in the league table with eight defeats already this season.
Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are set to take interim charge for the FA Cup third-round clash against Peterborough on Thursday. In addition to Dyche, key members of his backroom staff, including Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer, have also departed the club.
Everton’s struggles were evident during their most recent 1-0 loss to Bournemouth, where they failed to register a single shot on target. The team has now failed to score in eight of their last 10 games, underscoring their attacking woes. Dyche, who was appointed in January 2023 following his near decade-long tenure at Burnley, had initially managed to steer Everton away from relegation danger.
The Toffees narrowly avoided relegation at the end of the 2022-23 season, securing survival by just two points with a final-day win over Bournemouth. Last season, Dyche managed to keep Everton in the Premier League despite the team suffering an eight-point deduction due to breaches of the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. However, the club’s recent poor performances have forced Everton’s board to make a change in hopes of revitalizing their campaign.
