Tottenham Hotspur have officially exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, securing the South Korean forward’s services for an additional 12 months until June 2026. This move ensures the club captain will remain at Spurs for at least another year, avoiding the risk of losing him on a free transfer this summer, when his previous deal was set to expire.
Son, who has been a key figure at Tottenham since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, was reportedly on the radar of several top clubs, including Barcelona. However, the 32-year-old has now committed to extending his decade-long stay in north London.
A prolific forward, Son holds the record as the Premier League’s all-time leading Asian scorer and ranks third among active players in the competition’s scoring charts, trailing only Jamie Vardy and Mohamed Salah. Over his eight full seasons in the league, he has consistently hit double figures for goals, sharing the Golden Boot with Salah in 2022.
This season, however, has been more challenging for Son, who has managed just five goals in the league so far, including two in his last 11 appearances. Despite this dip in form, his overall contributions to Spurs remain immense, with 169 goals in 431 appearances across all competitions.
“We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026,” the club confirmed in an official statement on their website.
