Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club will exercise their one-year extension option to keep Harry Maguire at Old Trafford beyond the current season. The defender’s contract was set to expire next summer, but Amorim emphasized Maguire’s importance to the team during this transitional phase, while also providing an update on Amad Diallo’s contract situation.

“Amad is close,” Amorim revealed during a press conference ahead of Manchester United’s crucial trip to face Liverpool. “We are in the final stages of agreeing a new deal with him.”

Turning his attention to Maguire, Amorim confirmed the decision to trigger the extension and underscored the defender’s need to step up. “Harry, we are going to trigger our option,” he said. “I spoke with him this morning and told him he needs to improve his performances on the pitch. We need him a lot right now, especially as a leader, and I believe he can rise to the challenge.”

Acknowledging Maguire’s difficulties in recent seasons, Amorim expressed confidence in the former club captain’s ability to bounce back. “We all know the challenges he has faced here, but this is an important moment for him and for the team. Happily, we’re taking this step to keep Harry with us,” Amorim concluded.

The decision ensures Maguire will remain part of Manchester United’s plans while also reflecting Amorim’s faith in the player’s potential to contribute both on and off the field.
