Tottenham conceded a late equalizer to draw 2-2 at home against Wolves in the Premier League, a result that adds to the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. Spurs also suffered another injury setback as Destiny Udogie limped off early in the second half with a suspected hamstring issue, further deepening their defensive crisis. Additionally, Rodrigo Bentancur’s suspension rules him out of their next game against Newcastle United.
Spurs, who had already conceded 13 goals in their last three home matches across all competitions, endured a nightmare start when Wolves opened the scoring just seven minutes in. A well-rehearsed set-piece saw Rayan Aït-Nouri roll the ball to Hwang Hee-chan, who escaped his marker to fire home. Hwang, in fine form, scored for the second time in three days following his goal in Wolves’ 2-0 win over Manchester United on Boxing Day.
Tottenham responded quickly through a set-piece of their own. Pedro Porro’s superb out-swinging cross found Bentancur, who headed in his first goal after returning from a seven-match domestic suspension. Despite Wolves dominating possession for much of the first half, Spurs had the opportunity to take the lead before halftime when Brennan Johnson won a penalty.
However, Heung-min Son’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Wolves goalkeeper José Sá. Fortunately for Spurs, their captain was let off the hook just moments later when Johnson finished off a flowing team move to put the hosts ahead before the break.
The second half was disrupted by injuries, with Udogie leaving the field for Spurs and Wolves’ Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also requiring treatment before being replaced by Tommy Doyle. Tottenham had chances to extend their lead but failed to capitalize, leaving them vulnerable.
With just four minutes of normal time remaining, Wolves punished Spurs for their missed opportunities. Substitute Jørgen Strand Larsen scored a stunning equalizer, curling his shot beyond Guglielmo Vicario to deny Tottenham all three points.
The result leaves Tottenham frustrated, as their defensive frailties and inability to see out games continue to haunt them.
