Blockbuster FA Cup Third Round Draw: Manchester United to Face Arsenal, Tottenham Visit Tamworth

Defending champions Manchester United will travel to Arsenal in the third round of this season’s FA Cup, setting up a blockbuster clash between two of the tournament’s strongest contenders early in the New Year. This highly anticipated match is a repeat of the 2005 FA Cup final, which Arsenal won on penalties. It will also mark a significant test for United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, as his side faces the competition’s most successful team—Arsenal have claimed the trophy a record 14 times, including under current boss Mikel Arteta in his debut season.

Other standout fixtures in the draw include Tottenham’s trip to non-league Tamworth in what promises to be a classic David-versus-Goliath encounter. Meanwhile, fellow National League side Dagenham & Redbridge will make the short journey to Championship side Millwall. Bromley, enjoying their first-ever season in the Football League, will also reach a milestone as they travel to St James’ Park for a daunting tie against Newcastle United in their inaugural FA Cup third-round appearance.

Premier League leaders Liverpool, who knocked Arsenal out at this stage last year, will face Accrington Stanley, while Manchester City will meet their near-neighbors Salford City in an intriguing local matchup. League Two side Harrogate Town will also savor the spotlight as they head to Elland Road to take on Leeds United. Morecambe, meanwhile, have been rewarded with a glamorous away tie against an in-form Chelsea side in London.

The only other all-Premier League clash will see Aston Villa host West Ham United, while Southampton manager Russell Martin will face his former club, Swansea City, in a poignant tie. Martin departed Swansea in June 2023 to take the reins at the Saints.
