Julian Alvarez and Angel Correa both enjoyed two-goal performances as Atletico Madrid ran riot against Sparta Prague, securing an emphatic 6-0 victory.
After a difficult start to their Champions League campaign, which saw them suffer heavy defeats to Benfica and Lille, Atletico Madrid bounced back with an impressive 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in Paris on matchday four. They carried that momentum into this clash, delivering a sensational six-goal demolition of the Czech side.
The opening goal came just 15 minutes in, with Alvarez curling a magnificent free kick past the Sparta Prague goalkeeper. Atletico then doubled their lead two minutes before the break when Marcos Llorente, playing at right-back, found the back of the net.
Alvarez added his second and Atleti’s third goal in the 59th minute, finishing off a brilliant solo run with a superb strike following a delightful flick from substitute Antoine Griezmann, who then put his own name on the scoresheet with a powerful drilled shot into the corner for 4-0.
Correa completed the rout with two quick-fire goals of his own, scoring in the 85th and 89th minutes to seal a remarkable 6-0 victory. Atletico’s dominant display sent a strong message as they continued their recovery in the group stage.
