Benin Republic struck early with a goal from Mohamed Tijani in the 16th minute, seizing an early lead and immediately putting pressure on Nigeria. Throughout the first half, the Super Eagles struggled to find control of the game. The game’s momentum shifted in Nigeria’s favor after a skillful pass from Moses Simon found Victor Osimhen. In the 81st minute, Osimhen finally broke through, scoring the equalizer and revitalizing Nigeria’s hopes. In the closing minutes, defenders Ola Aina and Calvin Bassey, along with captain William Troost-Ekong, held the line with impressive defensive plays, blocking Benin’s attempts to reclaim the lead.
