Niger Secures First Win with Dominant 4-0 Victory Over Sudan, Shaking Up Group F Standings

Niger delivered a resounding 4-0 victory over Sudan at the Stade de Kégué, marking a breakthrough first win in their qualifying campaign and dealing a significant blow to Sudan’s hopes for Afcon qualification. The dominant performance allowed Niger’s team, known as the Mena, to jump to third place in Group F with four points, intensifying the pressure on Sudan, who remain in second place.

The home side wasted no time asserting their control, opening the scoring in just the sixth minute when Daniel Sosah expertly converted a cross from Kairou Amoustapha. This early goal set the tone for Niger’s relentless attack, and their advantage was soon doubled. In the 29th minute, Youssouf Oumarou unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the box, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and leaving Sudan’s defense visibly rattled.

As halftime approached, Sosah struck again. After a foul in the box by Mohamed Erneq, he calmly converted the resulting penalty, giving Niger a commanding 3-0 lead by the break. Any hope of a Sudanese comeback was effectively extinguished early in the second half when Ousseini Badamassi added a fourth goal in the 51st minute, sealing Niger’s triumphant performance and bolstering their chances of a comeback in the qualification race.

Sudan made efforts to regain footing, but Niger’s well-organized defense held firm, thwarting any significant threats. With this loss, Sudan remains in second place with seven points, although the gap to group leaders Angola remains substantial.
