Claudio Ranieri, at age 73, is set to come out of retirement to manage his hometown club Roma, becoming the team’s third head coach in a turbulent season. Known for his legendary achievement with Leicester City, where he guided the club to a remarkable Premier League title in 2016, Ranieri has reportedly agreed to take on the role until the end of the season after recent negotiations in London.
Reports from Italian media suggest that Roma may offer Ranieri a permanent position within the club’s management once his coaching stint concludes in June, allowing him to contribute his experience behind the scenes.
Upon arriving in Rome on Wednesday evening, Ranieri seemed to confirm his new role, hinting that the club had reached out to him to help stabilize the team through a difficult period. He takes over from Ivan Juric, who was dismissed just months after replacing former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi in September. Juric’s tenure was marred by poor results, winning only four of 12 games and leaving Roma precariously positioned in 12th place in Serie A, a mere four points clear of the relegation zone.
Ranieri had announced his retirement from club management after successfully keeping Cagliari in Serie A last season, but he now returns to the touchline in hopes of restoring stability and ambition to his beloved Roma.
