Ruud van Nistelrooy signed off in style as Manchester United cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford. In what proved to be an impressive farewell performance under Van Nistelrooy’s management, United demonstrated their quality with a well-rounded display.
The breakthrough came through a moment of brilliance from captain Bruno Fernandes, who marked his 250th appearance for the club with a superb strike from outside the box. His goal gave United the lead, and soon after, Fernandes was involved again as his shot deflected off Leicester’s Victor Kristiansen for an own goal, doubling the advantage just before halftime.
In the second half, Alejandro Garnacho added the finishing touch with another stunning long-range goal. After coming off the bench, the young forward curled a beautiful shot into the top corner, once again assisted by Fernandes, showcasing the playmaker’s vision. United’s attack seemed to have rediscovered its spark, with three well-taken goals and plenty of chances created.
Leicester had occasional moments of their own, with Andre Onana forced to make a smart save from Wilfred Ndidi, but they couldn’t break down United’s solid defense. With this result, United have secured three wins and a draw in Van Nistelrooy’s brief but productive four-game tenure, before he hands the reins to Ruben Amorim. United now sit 13th in the table, while Leicester remain in 15th, struggling to lift themselves from the lower end of the standings.
