Dusan Vlahovic’s second-half penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for Juventus against a resilient Lille in their Champions League encounter. The match saw Canada’s Jonathan David put the hosts in front in the 27th minute with a deft dinked finish over Juventus goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio, putting Lille on course for a crucial three points.
However, Juventus were awarded a penalty just before the hour mark when winger Francisco Conceicao was fouled by Lille’s Benjamin Andre inside the box. Vlahovic stepped up and calmly sent Lille keeper Lucas Chevalier the wrong way from the spot to level the score.
The final 30 minutes saw Juventus dominate possession and create several chances, but they were unable to break Lille’s resolve for a second goal. Before Vlahovic’s equalizer, Juventus came close on multiple occasions, with Chevalier pulling off an impressive double save to deny Conceicao and Khephren Thuram. The Italian side also had two goals from Teun Koopmeiners ruled out for offside before the break.
The draw saw Juventus move up to 10th in the group standings, two places ahead of Lille, with both teams now on seven points. Despite the result, Lille can take pride in their impressive three-game unbeaten run in Europe, following a tough opening loss to Sporting. Since then, they’ve claimed victories over Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and now add a draw against two-time European champions Juventus to their impressive record.
