Official Confirmation: Manchester United Appoint Ruben Amorim as New Head Coach in Historic Move

Manchester United have officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese coach will leave Sporting later this month and is set to join United on November 11, following his final duties with the Lisbon club. His debut as United’s head coach will be on November 24, when the team faces Ipswich Town.

Amorim has agreed to a contract with United that runs until June 2027, with an option for an additional year. To expedite his release from Sporting, United paid an extra €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) buyout clause, securing his arrival before the standard 30-day notice period concludes. Amorim will replace Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed last month, with Ruud van Nistelrooy continuing to oversee first-team duties until Amorim’s arrival.

As United prepare to host Chelsea on Sunday, the club has yet to decide if Van Nistelrooy will remain on staff once Amorim takes over. Amorim was United’s first choice for the role, and he was the only coach the club approached during the recruitment process.

Notably, Amorim is the first in United’s history to hold the title of “head coach” rather than “manager,” marking a shift in the club’s leadership structure.
