Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen were unable to secure a victory against French side Brest, settling for a 1-1 draw at the Stade de Roudourou in Guingamp. Despite their efforts, Leverkusen couldn’t break down a resilient Brest defense and had to settle for a single point in the encounter.
Leverkusen’s standout midfielder Florian Wirtz continued his impressive form this season, putting the German champions ahead midway through the first half. Wirtz showcased his attacking prowess by firing a precise shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner, giving Leverkusen a deserved early lead.
However, Brest, who were coming off an emphatic 4-0 win over RB Leipzig in their previous outing, responded swiftly. Just 15 minutes later, Pierre Lees-Melou brought the hosts level with a spectacular effort. The French midfielder struck a perfect volley from the edge of the box, sending the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, leaving the Leverkusen goalkeeper with no chance. Lees-Melou’s stunning goal ensured Brest held on for a hard-fought draw, frustrating Leverkusen’s attempts to claim all three points.
