Stones’ Last-Gasp Header Seals Dramatic Win for Manchester City Against Wolves

John Stones’ dramatic stoppage-time header secured a crucial victory for Manchester City, keeping them within reach of Premier League leaders Liverpool, as the reigning champions edged out a resilient Wolves side. Stones’ decisive goal, coming in the fifth minute of injury time, was initially ruled out for offside. However, after a review by referee Chris Kavanagh, the goal was awarded, much to the fury of the home side.

Earlier in the match, Wolves had taken a surprising lead when Jorgen Strand Larsen tapped in a cross from Nelson Semedo after some excellent build-up play, leaving City stunned just seven minutes in. Despite controlling possession, City had to wait until the 33rd minute to find an equalizer, with Josko Gvardiol firing a superb strike into the top corner from 20 yards.

Wolves, winless and bottom of the Premier League, continued to frustrate City with organized defense and solid goalkeeping from Jose Sa, who replaced the injured Sam Johnstone. Sa made key saves to deny Bernardo Silva and Savinho, ensuring the visitors couldn’t immediately capitalize on their dominance.

City piled on the pressure in the second half, with Ruben Dias coming close, but Wolves remained a threat on the counter, with Matheus Cunha narrowly missing a chance to restore their lead. Pep Guardiola turned to Phil Foden and Jack Grealish for a late spark, and it wasn’t until deep into stoppage time that City finally found a breakthrough. Stones’ header from Foden’s corner appeared to be ruled out due to Silva’s offside position, but after consultation, Kavanagh allowed the goal to stand, leaving Wolves heartbroken and City celebrating a vital win.
