Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially launched its campaign on Tuesday with a large gathering in Akure, the state capital. Hundreds of enthusiastic party supporters, clad in branded uniforms and fez caps, filled Oyemekun Road in a display of fanfare and party unity.
During the event, the PDP flag was presented to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagun. The rally saw a strong presence of national, state, and local party leaders, including Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. Other prominent attendees included the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, and former Ondo State Deputy Governor, Ambassador Omolade Oluwateru, among others.
In his address while presenting the party flag, Alhaji Damagun emphasized that the PDP was fully united and ready to reclaim Ondo State in the upcoming election. He urged the people to safeguard their votes and free themselves from the rule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he said had inflicted hardship on the populace.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, assured supporters that the party had overcome its leadership crisis and was now focused on victory. He called on the people of Ondo State to support and vote for Ajayi, expressing confidence in the party’s strength.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, also took the stage to encourage voters not to sell their votes and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the election was conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.
Sam Egwu, representing the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, also appealed to the people of Ondo State to not only cast their votes but to remain vigilant and protect their votes to ensure a fair outcome in the election.
