In preparation for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) by registered voters will begin on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
Sam Olumekun, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this announcement in a statement released on Monday. The Ondo governorship election is set to take place on November 16, 2024.
According to the statement, a total of 89,777 new PVCs have been printed and sent to INEC’s state office in Akure. This includes 58,708 cards for newly registered voters and 31,069 for those who requested transfers, updates, or replacements for lost or damaged cards.
The collection of PVCs will be conducted at two levels across 221 designated centers throughout the state. INEC emphasized that voters must collect their cards in person, as the collection by proxy is strictly prohibited. The commission also encouraged all registered voters to ensure they retrieve their PVCs before the election to participate fully in the electoral process.
