The Government of Namibia has turned to Nigeria for assistance in its ongoing efforts to combat corruption, seeking the support of both the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This collaboration comes as Namibia acknowledges Nigeria’s leading role in the fight against corruption across Africa and expresses interest in benefiting from Nigeria’s substantial achievements in this area.

A statement posted on the ICPC’s website on Saturday confirmed that the partnership aims to explore training opportunities and the exchange of expertise between the Namibian Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies. The announcement followed a visit by Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geiseb, who met with officials at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

During his visit, Ambassador Geiseb emphasized Nigeria’s prominent position in the fight against corruption on the continent, suggesting that the knowledge and strategies Nigeria has developed should be shared with other African nations. He also highlighted Namibia’s own anti-corruption efforts through the ACC and expressed interest in learning from Nigeria’s success, particularly in the recovery of stolen assets by both the ICPC and EFCC.

In response, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, expressed his appreciation for the ambassador’s visit, which coincided with the launch of ICPC’s Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028. He stressed that the fight against corruption in Africa cannot be waged in isolation and reiterated the ICPC’s readiness to collaborate with other anti-corruption bodies across the continent to curb corruption.
