Obasanjo Highlights China’s Role as Key Economic Partner in Africa, Urges Continued Cooperation for Global Peace

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the significance of the People’s Republic of China as a vital economic partner for Africa. He noted that China’s collaboration with Africa has not only propelled infrastructural development but has also promoted technology transfer and fostered an exchange of expertise between the two regions.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Friday, Obasanjo spoke on behalf of the InterAction Council during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and representatives of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The meeting, which took place in Beijing, was part of the association’s 70th-anniversary celebrations.

Obasanjo urged the Chinese government and its people to continue strengthening future cooperation with Africa, with the goal of advancing global peace and shared prosperity. He lauded President Xi for his unwavering commitment to supporting global cooperation and multilateralism.

Speaking on China-Africa relations, Obasanjo highlighted how the partnership serves as a model for successful people-to-people diplomacy, with deep-rooted cooperation in areas such as economics, culture, and education. He expressed pride in the longstanding and evolving relationship between the two regions.

Additionally, the former President mentioned that his colleagues from the InterAction Council felt privileged to be invited to participate in the celebration of the association’s seven decades of dedication to promoting global peace, development, and cooperation.
