The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has carried out the destruction of counterfeit products valued at N10 billion in Nigeria’s Northeast zone. The illicit goods were incinerated in Gombe State on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the agency’s ongoing efforts to eliminate substandard products from the market.

During the event, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the North East Zonal Director, Mr. Kenneth Azikwe, emphasized that the exercise underscored the agency’s dedication to ensuring the safety and health of Nigerian consumers. The destroyed items included counterfeit food, drugs, and other regulated products, all seized through the vigilant efforts of NAFDAC’s regulatory and enforcement teams.

Prof. Adeyeye highlighted the potential harm these products could have caused had they been circulated, potentially endangering countless lives in the region. She urged Nigerians to remain alert and report any suspicious or unregulated products to NAFDAC, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to fostering a safer and healthier nation.

NAFDAC’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. James Agada, further reinforced the agency’s resolve to crack down on those who place profits above public safety. He described the destruction of the goods as a critical aspect of NAFDAC’s market control strategies, ensuring that only safe and high-quality products reach consumers.

Agada also reassured the public that NAFDAC is strengthening its regulatory frameworks, enhancing surveillance activities, and remaining determined to bring violators to justice. He affirmed, “We will continue to intensify our efforts to safeguard public health and uphold the standards of products in the marketplace.”
