The Oyo State Government announced on Tuesday that 245 suspected cholera cases were reported from January 1 to October 7, with 23 confirmed cases and one death. The state’s Health Commissioner, Oluwasherimi Ajetumobi, revealed this during a press briefing after the weekly Executive Council Meeting at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

Ajetumobi noted that the single death was a patient who had been transferred from Lagos. She added that nine patients currently receiving treatment at the infectious diseases center in Ibadan are recovering well and expected to be discharged soon.

During the meeting, a request for approval of N210.243 million as the state’s counterpart funding for the upcoming 2025 net campaign was reviewed. The commissioner mentioned that the procurement of the nets had already cost USAID N1.726 billion. She assured that all households, particularly vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant women, and the elderly, would benefit from the distribution of these nets.

Additionally, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, outlined the cultural and tourism activities planned for the remainder of the year. These include the World Twin Festival in Igboora on October 12, the Yemoja Festival in Ibadan from October 10–27, and the Omilere Alaragbo Festival, culminating in its grand finale on November 17 in Oluyole Local Government.

Other key events include the Oluyole Festival in Mapo on December 10, the Omituntun Cultural Carnival from December 10–12 at either Obafemi Awolowo Stadium or Lekan Salami Stadium, and the Iyake International Festival from November 13–16 in Ado-Awaye. The year will conclude with the maiden Ogbomoso Global Cultural Carnival from December 14–24, which will unite Ogbomoso natives from around the world.
