Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has officially sworn in the newly-elected chairmen and vice chairmen for the 31 local government areas of the state. The ceremony took place on Monday at the conference hall of the Government House in Uyo, the state’s capital.
In the local government election, which was held on Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 30 of the chairmanship seats, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed victory in one local government area.
During his address to the newly inaugurated chairmen and vice chairmen, Governor Eno urged them to prioritize the welfare of the people and approach their new roles as a call to serve the public. He emphasized the importance of good governance at the grassroots level, especially in light of the state’s current economic challenges. The governor noted that the difficult economic climate places a greater responsibility on the local leaders to work toward improving the lives of their constituents.
Governor Eno also called on the new chairmen to foster peace and unity within their respective communities, aligning their efforts with the Arise Agenda of his administration, which aims to uplift the well-being of the people and promote development across the state.
In addition, the governor expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission for their dedication to ensuring a credible and transparent election process. He praised the commission for successfully conducting an election that was widely regarded as free and fair.
Governor Eno’s charge to the new local government leaders reflects his administration’s focus on grassroots development, urging them to rise to the occasion and address the needs of the people during challenging times.
