The Federal Government has set a new deadline of September 2025 for Julius Berger, the contractor in charge of the N280 billion Bodo-Bonny Road project in Rivers State, to complete the construction. This follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the revised contract sum to expedite the road’s completion.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed this during an inspection of federal road projects on Monday. He explained that after lengthy negotiations, Julius Berger’s request for the N280 billion was approved, with a commitment to finish the job as per the specifications.

Umahi emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreement and directed Julius Berger to mobilize work at three locations to ensure progress. He plans to return for further inspections in October and November 2024 to monitor the work.

He added that President Tinubu is keen on the road’s early completion and has involved key officials, including the National Security Adviser and the NNPCL CEO, to ensure the project stays on track. Umahi assured the people of Rivers State that the road will have a lifespan of 50-100 years without requiring maintenance once completed.
