The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, officially swore in 27 new permanent secretaries into the state’s civil service commission on Wednesday, October 3, 2024. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the commission’s temporary office in Calabar, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen the state’s public service.

In his address to the newly appointed officials, Governor Otu emphasized the critical role they will play in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the state’s civil service. He reminded the appointees that their new positions come with considerable responsibilities, particularly in fostering innovative ideas and driving the public sector forward. Otu highlighted that their appointment aligns with his administration’s overarching goal of prioritizing the welfare of the people, a key pillar of his “people’s first” agenda.
